I have a question on this — I want to teach Trooper to hug a pole but I had planned on teaching him to learn how to go around the pole. How would I differentiate the 2 different tricks? I want to use shaping for this. I got the pole and he does interact with it. I need to separate the 2 behaviors.
Is it possible to use two different objects?? One for him to go around, one to hug?? The other option is to focus on one of the tricks and train it to the point of naming it THEN starting to train the other trick.
I did think about that — a broader or wider width pole for hugging and a narrower one for houng around. I will keep you posted. Thanks.
@Jordan Biggs Here is Judge’s second session today with the pole. His first he caught on quick and was actually holding it. Right before this session I accidentally dropped the pole on him so it took him a bit to warm up to it. Lots of reinforcement for that.
Wooo! That looks fantastic!! Try to click and reward when he lifts his paw up. He is not holding it very tight so just keep clicking and rewarding when he readjusts and that will help teach him to hold it tighter. Otherwise, everything is looking awesome!!
