So, I’m going to leave this comment here as a ‘pinned’ comment – my timing has gotten SO much better over the years, since I filmed these with Solar! I expect YOUR timing to be better than mine in the demonstration video (and I will be posting updated videos with Chispa and Frodo ASAP). BUT, it’s good to remember the gold standard for blind crosses – FINISH it in time to see the dog LIFT for the jump behind you. Look how LATE my blind is!! I *should* have been initiating it as Solar was landing one, because that’s when… Read more »
Thank you so much!!!! I ordered my jump strips a few weeks ago and have been looking for the perfect design for the jumps with wings. These are awesome. I just placed my order and can’t wait to get started. Thanks so much again for sharing.
How big is the pvc you buy to make these jumps same as the fittings I want to get started on them You said you painted some jumps what kind of paint
Betty, I used 1.25″ PVC for my jumps 🙂 ~Daisy
Where did you get the colored pvc
I painted it, ultimately, using spray paint for plastic, after the dye experiment 🙂
How did you attach the grommets I got all my fittings and some pvc and going to try my own jump making I love the design of these jumps thanks
Also how much fabric just it take for one jump
I hVe made your jumps but revised it. Because I didn’t like the wide wings Shorten the 25 to 20 Tge 17 to 13 then 11 to the piece that connects it all Like that shorten wing better
Hoping to watch this
Looking forward to it!
Also hoping to watch this 🙂
Thanks, this is super helpful!
Thanks for sharing. I enjoy a peek into your strategizing as well as watching the runs themselves. You do such a terrific job staying out ahead! Would you call the push at 5:45 a “push on the flat”? What dictates your choice of arms? Do you ever do this when you are alongside or slightly behind your dog? I know in an ideal world one is always ahead on a push, but my reality is that I often fall behind on the kinds of long lines in these courses, although all those sends to tunnels might give me a fighting… Read more »
Sure, it’s a push on the flat, or maybe a landing side push. But yes, it’s happening on the flat after the jump for sure 🙂 As for putting my outside arm up, that’d be because I was slightly behind my dog and needed to push him away from me. My ability to DO that diminishes as I fall behind his cheek/shoulder, so the outside arm was a bit of an insurance move 🙂 If I’d been further ahead I wouldn’t have needed it BUT I may have risked pushing too early and pushing Frodo to the backside of the… Read more »
Thanks, that makes sense. And it certainly worked well. 🙂
I haven’t seen the video but was there motion toward the dog? Sounds like a half rear cross 🙂
Yes, there was, and yes, it ended up being a sort of half rear cross 😉
hmmm – not able to pick up link to video …?
You’ll need to be on a desktop to watch, I’m afraid 🙂
I waited until I was on a desktop…. still not able to watch. What am I missing?
Angela, sorry for the delay – please make sure you’re logged in, and then check to see if you’re having issues 🙂
Am I too late to watch? Nothing happens when I click on link. 🙁
Nope, not too late. You need to sign up for access to these videos and then make sure to watch on a supported device (laptop or desktop).
same confinement issues when importing from Canada
I’m worried about getting the right bag to fly with my new puppy within the states.
Love all the ideas you shared to keep Chispa content and will definitely be doing these things minus the flight time and Rabies Restrictions.
Thank you for the Awesome information,
You’re welcome! I have a bag that has the Delta logo all over it, and since I fly Delta internationally usually, it’s pretty obviously approved on THEIR flights 🙂
What size do you have?
Just curious about the measurements as there are quite a selection of Sherpa carriers.
The tag says Delta Pet Carrier Medium Black, if that helps?
Yes and Thank you ?
Does the confinement mean you agree to keep her confined? How do they define confinement? So glad she is safely home and fine!
Yes, it means that the puppy must be confined to your home, basically. So, you have the choice of breaking federal law in order to have a well socialized puppy, or following federal law and keeping your puppy under lock and key until some of the most critical socialization periods have passed. Tough choice. But, you know, people break federal law every day here in Oregon, and in Washington, and in Colorado, and… 🙂
Awesome introduction to Chispa! “Poppy” spent her first weekend without her littermates driving from San Diego to Santa Barbara and then up to the Bay Area. She also met lots of people and played with some new adult dogs. She did great on the trip and riding in the crate. Although I must confess her litter was litter boxed trained and so she used her litter box on the trip.
That’s pretty convenient, although my guess is that you’ve been working to expand her potty options 🙂
Yes indeed, the litter box is gone (except in the outdoor run) and we continue to reinforce potty outside and of course on-going crate training. She is very vocal when she needs to relieve herself – I hope someday to sleep past 4:00am! Thankfully she is willing to go back into her crate and back to sleep.
